SRI LANKA CYCLING TOUR
TOUR DATES: 13 to 22 January 2024
Sri Lanka, this pearl shaped island nation in the Indian Ocean just South of the Indian Peninsula is one of the hottest travel destinations and lures adventurers of all kinds. Sri Lanka welcomes every type of tourist with open arms. If you’re someone who love the solitude of nature, steady walks through trails or maybe you love relaxing by the sea with the sun warming your face and a cool breeze caressing your skin – whatever your liking is, Sri Lanka is the place you should be visiting.
The Italian explorer Marco Polo who visited Sri Lanka in the 12th century, claimed Sri Lanka to be the "best island of its size in the world". We as kids have grown up listening to the stories of Epic Ramayana in which the mention of Lanka is there every now and then. Ravana dethroned Kubera, his stepbrother and god of wealth, and took possession of the beautiful island. Ravana is also credited for building a flying machine and having Wariyapola as his airport!!
Every now and then, new trends emerge in travel. They not only tell you what people want, but also what people are missing, in their daily lives. Some take cycling trips with friends, while others opt for organised cycling tours. So we have designed a cycling itinerary for you which highlights with visits to most of the desired destinations in Sri Lanka with cycling on offbeat routes in the interiors avoiding the highways. There is certainly no better way to truly breathe in the splendour of this island paradise than by taking a cycle tour through the country.
Our tour starts from Bandaranaike International Airport, from where we will be taken to our hotel in Negombo. We will relax here and, in the evening, will meet our local guides. Our epic cycling trip starts the next day by a ride to Narammala and then drive to Sigiriya. Here you can explore the Lion rock fortresses well as the ancient ruins in Polonnaruwa, the second oldest kingdom in Sri Lanka. The next stop will be Kandy. We will visit Dambulla Cave Temple before cycling from Naula to Kandy. Here we can cycle along the Amaban River to Pallegama and then from Riverton, which offers up a truly awe-inspiring view of the Knuckles Mountain range, to the hill capital of Kandy. From Kandy we will take a scenic train ride to Nanuoya Station from where we cycle up to Nuwara Eliya.
From Nuwara Eliya, also known as “Little England”, we will cycle to another popular destination Ella. The constantly undulating roads flanked by gorgeous tea gardens and natural beaty will be constant companion. From Ella we will cycle down to Kataragama, entrance to world famous Yala National Park. We will visit the park next day, which will also act as rest / buffer day. From Kataragama we will cycle to Unawatuna, close to the city of Galle. After visiting Galle Fort for and surrounding area, we will cycle to the beach town of Bentota. Next day we will leave for international airport for our onward travel via Colombo City.
